Friday May 28, 2021
Martin has the wheel and drives the fellas at high speed through a discussion of car chase movies and what they mean. Yes, the guys give ontological weight to a movie about a hillbilly driving a Trans Am halfway across the country to steal beer. Because of course we do. 10-4 good buddy, I'm 10-10 on the side.

Francis runs a big pop culture episode for us and we do another round of 'Movies We Always Have to Watch', those movies when you come across them while channel surfing that make you stop and settle in.
This time we go with a 'Seventies Fest' with all our our movies being from (or real close to) that time period. We discuss classics from the era by Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, John Boorman, Clint Eastwood and the ever-awesome Mel Brooks. Fantastic stuff!

Episode 026 "The Klingon Empire Will Never Yield!"
Friday Nov 22, 2019
Friday Nov 22, 2019
That's right, 4th Friday means a pop culture episode. Francis leads the guys with enthusiasm for a fun and insightful look at Star Trek's complex bad guys, the Klingons. Bad guys? Well, OK, to quote Trevor Slattery, "hey, it's complicated".
There are so many Star Trek moments that the guys recommend in this episode, but if you're looking for a really cool resource in print-kindle format, try The Klingon Dictionary by linguist Marc Okrand from 1992 where the entire Klingon Language is laid out, complete with grammar, syntax, pronunciation and much more.

Episode 022 "Film Noir is Some Depressing Shit"
Friday Oct 25, 2019
Friday Oct 25, 2019
Martin leads the guys through a consideration of the cinematic genre of Film Noir and what it says about the duality and desolation of the human soul, justice and redemption. Yeah, it gets that deep. Robert and Francis provide some optimism for humanity though. Martin figures, eh, why bother?
While there are literally tons of books on the subject of film noir, the guys recommend starting with The Film Noir Encyclopedia by Alain Silver and others from 2010.
Also they highly endorse watching Double Indemnity from 1944 starring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck . . . featuring the uncredited but amazing cameo appearance of Barbara's Stanwyck's towel.

Episode 010 "Jack 'King' Kirby: Thanks for the MCU"
Friday Jul 26, 2019
Friday Jul 26, 2019
Martin, Robert and Francis reach back to Episodes 5 and 6 and dig more into the legacy of the one and only Jack 'King' Kirby. He means everything to the visual appeal of the MCU.
Jack Kirby's output is so prolific that no one book could possible cover all the massive work that he did in his decades of comic book illustration. check out his Amazon Search Page for some great starting points!
